Evan lasted for 25 of the 30 minute swim lesson. Not bad considering I was a bad mom and took him despite his ear infection. This was our first of four. I will keep you posted on how they go.

4th of July
4th of July in Crescent City is always entertaining. We started our day with cherry icebox cookies from Glenn's and then settled in for the parade.
Evan wasn't too interested in the parade. Sad to say the only two floats he clapped for were the Wal-Mart ones. Who know why, one was a float, and then a few minutes later he clapped for the semi. Random:)
Auntie Risa's turn to keep him entertained.
And now Uncle Skeeter's turn.
The Shriners

Here he is playing with his toys, or at least that's what we though...
...any guesses to what he was actually doing?
Mom, where are you?
After the parade we waited in a very long doughboy line, got some lunch from Perlita's and took a very sleepy Evan home. When he woke we were going to go to the river, but couldn't find a sandy spot close enough, so we filled the pool instead.

We missed the big fireworks show this year because we got some very upsetting news as we were about to head into town. Instead we stayed home and celebrated Aunt Kathleen's zest for life with fireworks. They didn't do her justice by any means, but they did distract us from the sad realities of life for a little while.

Crescent City
I don't know how it happens, but time seems to fly when we are in CC. We did manage to squeeze in a visit with the cousins though. We had planned on more than one, but plans don't always seem to work out.

Viv, Seth, Sis, Alysha, and Evan
He had a lot of fun playing out at Grandma and Papa's house. Again, I wasn't so great with pictures, but I did get some video. Here he is pulling up on his porta crib. He was doing pull ups and lifting his leg like he was going to climb in, but of course once the camera came out, he was done. He also learned how to rock in a rocking chair and on a rocking horse. He also taught himself how to stand up out of the chair.

He is getting more curious and more daring every day. Sunday he had his first major fall. I saw it happen in slow motion. He was going up the steps, like in this video, only there wasn't a hand close enough to catch him. He got a goose egg on his noggin, and it took him a few tries before he would attempt the steps again, but other than that he was fine. Evan has now mastered waving bye-bye, but is still selective about when he does it. He did know to go to the door though.

Here he is modeling one of his birthday presents from his Auntie Alysha.

First Trip to the Dentist
Evan had his first visit with Dr. Saladin today. Pretty much we went in and filled out the paperwork so he could be a patient, then they took us back, he got to sit in the big chair, and the dentist checked his teeth. He said his dental age matched up with his age, so that's good. Since he is no longer taking a bottle or a pacifier, he is a low risk patient. He left with a smile, a balloon, a toy star, and a bag of dental goodies. All in all, a good trip. Ben and I just wish they took adults too. They have video games in the lobby and TV screens on the ceiling above each chair.

A Day in the Life...
Today was the first day that felt like vacation. Monday came, and we didn't wake up to an alarm! So, what did we do all day?
Evan had a fabulous breakfast of yogurt, scrambled eggs, banana, waffle and milk. Then he played, and slept, we went to Target, he played and slept. Dada was his first word, but I am pretty sure he is not just saying mama in one of these videos, but it might actually be directed at me. He also says the word dog, which sounds a lot like dada, but he says it while reading Bad Dog, Marley.

We started the day with a walk to the park. You won't be able to tell from the pictures, but he does enjoy our morning walks.

After our walk we went out to breakfast. When Evan woke from his nap, we went to Toys R Us and got a pool. Ben and I thought we were going to die before we figured out the trick to blowing this thing up.
Evan after he has been attacked by the sunscreen mommy monster!

Nice sunscreen mohawk!

I think he likes it!

Daddy decided he needed a dip too!

Sunbathing babes!

He loves the bath, but man on man, I think he loves his pool more. In his pool, if he drops something over the edge, he can reach out and grab it.
After the pool Evan took a nice long nap, then we played some more. Dada is definitely his first word. While Ben was at the river with Shadow we worked on hi dada, and when I called Ben and held the phone up to Evan's ear and told him to say hi dada, he did! Total fluke, but what great timing.

This is not posed, I swear! He just likes to do whatever daddy is doing.
